What Size Kettlebells Should You Use?

kettlebells sizes

Introduction

Kettlebells are an excellent piece of equipment, primarily because of their versatility. You can work out your whole body, hitting every single muscle group with only one kettlebell. Plus, kettlebell workouts build muscles, and are cardio at the same time, making them very efficient. But, the question arises: “Which size kettlebells do I need?”. It’s a good question, primarily because they are much more expensive than dumbells. Unless you have an unlimited budget,  size does matter.
In this article, we will teach you how to pick the right size for your full body kettlebell workout. With kettlebells, there is a huge difference between 20 kg kettlebell and 4 kg kettlebell, much larger than between dumbells of the same size.

4kg Kettlebells And 8kg Kettlebells—Best For Women and Beginners

Because women usually weigh less than men, and have less muscle mass, lighter kettlebells will do.
If you are an absolute beginner, a 4kg kettlebell is a great option. It will provide enough resistance to challenge you, but it will never put too much on your body, causing injuries. A kettlebell workout with less load is a perfect opportunity to practice your form, and master swing, clean and press techniques.
And your 4kg kettlebell will never become useless. You can use it later for light kettlebell core exercises such as Russian twists, or for shoulder movements such as external rotation or lateral raises.
8 kg kettlebell is much more challenging, and it is something even male athletes will use often, especially when you get tired with heavier weights. For women, an 8kg kettlebell is something you can use forever, especially if your focus is general health and fitness, and staying “toned”. For bodybuilding purposes, you will need to upgrade the weights.

12kg Kettlebells—16kg Kettlebells—20kg Kettlebells and Heavier

A 12kg kettlebell is in the “male” group. With kettlebells of this size, you will get awesome workouts, no matter the fitness level. If you are more advanced, just cut the rest time, and increase reps.
16kg kettlebell is an ideal size, and for men, it will stay the most used piece of equipment for years to come. It is just the right weight to stay challenging, and you won’t have to go for too many reps. And again, it is not too heavy, and you will be able to pull off the volume, getting your heart pumping.
20+ kg kettlebells are for more experienced lifters, at least if you plan to perform classic kettlebell movements. This much weight is also great for bodybuilding, as you can do some traditional dumbbell exercises with your kettlebells, putting a new kind of stress and wake up your muscles.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are different size kettlebells, but figuring out what you need is not that difficult. And figuring out where to buy them is even easier—Strength And Fitness supplies.

The best thing you can do is to buy a set of kettlebells, that way you don’t have to worry about getting just one size. We have a set of kettlebells for sale, and we guarantee that you won’t find a better fitness equipment for sale in Ireland!
